This page (irregularly) shares some personal memos and things that I found interesting/inspiring.
Amid rapid technological advancement, I try to practice slow science, a mental note that meaningful work requires time, space, and patience.
My inspiration sources of studying human emotion and attention (sometimes linked to focus or productivity) partially come from:
- How Emotions Are Made? by Lisa Feldman Barrett
- Deep Work by Cal Newport
Working as a academic is a mix of fun and setbacks. When things went down, I used to think about and was encouraged by:
- The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch
- The Ph.D. Grind by Philip J. Guo
I enjoy reading, both for winding down and for eye-opening perspectives. Recently, I've been (slowly) reading:
- Attachment in Adulthood: Structure, Dynamics, and Change by Mario Mikulincer & Phillip R. Shaver
- Why Fish Don’t Exist by Lulu Miller
- Rock Climbing Technique by John Kettle
Other times, I run and wander around the world; occasionally, I doodle and paint. A while ago, I was a member of the college dance crew.
🧗 My recent after-work TOGO is bouldering gym.
🐱 Back in 2017, on a thunderstorm evening in Washington D.C., I adopted a cat named Missy. Since then, she has traveled and lived in different places on the earth with me, including Maryland, Pennsylvania, California, and Hong Kong.
